If you are looking for a gaming laptop that can handle 1080p gaming without breaking the bank, you might want to check out the Asus TUF A15. This 15-inch laptop features an AMD Ryzen processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU, along with a 144 Hz IPS display, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. In this review, we will take a closer look at the Asus TUF A15’s design, performance, battery life, and more.

Design and Build Quality

The Asus TUF A15 has a rugged and sturdy design that lives up to its name. The chassis is made of plastic with a metal lid that has a honeycomb pattern and the TUF logo. The laptop weighs 2.15 kg and measures 24.9 x 354 x 251 mm, making it relatively compact and portable for a gaming laptop.

The laptop has a good selection of ports, including two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort support, one USB 2.0 Type-A port, one HDMI 2.0b port, one RJ45 LAN port, one audio jack, and one Kensington lock slot. The laptop also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless connectivity.

The keyboard is backlit with RGB lighting and has a full-size layout with a number pad. The keys have decent travel and feedback, but they are not very quiet. The touchpad is smooth and responsive, but it lacks dedicated buttons.

The display is one of the highlights of the Asus TUF A15. It is a 15.6-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The display has good brightness, contrast, color accuracy, and viewing angles. It also supports Adaptive Sync technology to reduce screen tearing and stuttering.

Performance and Gaming

The Asus TUF A15 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, which is an octa-core CPU with a base clock of 3.2 GHz and a boost clock of up to 4.8 GHz. The processor has a TDP of 65 W and can handle multitasking and productivity tasks with ease.

The graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU, which is based on the Ampere architecture and has 6 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. The GPU has a base clock of 2355 MHz and a boost clock of up to 2655 MHz. It also supports ray tracing and DLSS technologies for enhanced graphics quality.

The Asus TUF A15 can run most modern games at high settings in 1080p resolution with smooth frame rates. For example, it can achieve an average of 75 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with high settings and ray tracing off, or an average of 45 fps with ray tracing on and DLSS set to balanced mode. It can also run games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Doom Eternal at over 60 fps with high or ultra settings.

The laptop has two RAM slots that support up to 64 GB of DDR5-4800 memory. Our review unit came with 16 GB of RAM in dual-channel mode, which is sufficient for most users. The laptop also has an M.2 slot that supports PCIe NVMe SSDs up to 2 TB in size. Our review unit had a Micron SSD with a capacity of 512 GB, which offered fast read and write speeds.

Battery Life and Cooling

The Asus TUF A15 has a large battery capacity of 90 Wh, which can provide up to eight hours of web browsing or video playback on a single charge. However, the battery life will vary depending on the usage scenario and the power settings. For gaming, the battery life will be much shorter, as the laptop will require the included 240 W power adapter to run at full performance.

The laptop has a dual-fan cooling system with four heat pipes and three heat sinks to dissipate the heat generated by the CPU and GPU. The fans have three modes: silent, performance, and turbo, which can be adjusted via the Armoury Crate software or the function keys. The fans are quite loud in performance and turbo modes, reaching up to 50 dB. The laptop also gets quite warm under load, especially on the keyboard area and the bottom panel.

The Asus TUF A15 is a great choice for gamers who want a powerful yet affordable gaming laptop that can handle 1080p gaming with high settings and decent frame rates. The laptop has a solid build quality, a good selection of ports, a nice display, and a long battery life. The drawbacks are the noisy fans, the warm temperatures, and the bland design.

The Asus TUF A15 is available for $1,169 on Amazon, which is a good value for money considering its specifications and performance. If you are looking for a budget gaming laptop with an RTX 4050 and a 144 Hz screen, you should definitely consider the Asus TUF A15.
